New iMacs
On Thursday, October 16, Apple took the stage in California to announce a brand new Retina iMac.
Apple officially announced a brand new, Retina iMac that boasts plenty of the same design aesthetics as previous generation Macs, while including plenty of new, noteworthy features that people have been asking for for quite some time. It features 14.7 million pixels, and Apple calls it the Retina 5K display. The new display features oxide TFT, which means brighter pixels, and clearer images with vivd brightness across the whole display.
Apple created a single chip for their new display, because one didn’t exist to run the new Retina 5K display.
Apple also uses power saving LEDs, allowing to increase the display’s clarity, while reducing the overall power consumption by 30%.
The new display features a resolution of 5120×2880.
Under the hood, the starting processor is an Intel Core i5 chipset clocked at 3.5GHz, with a Turbo Boost option up to 3.9GHz. That can be configured all the way up to an Intel Core i7 chipset, clocked at 4.0GHz, with a Turbo Boost option up to 4.4GHz.
The memory is set at 8GB (two 4GB) of 1600MHz DDR3 memory; four SO-DIMM slots, user accessible to start, but is configurable to 16GB or 32GB.

The graphics cards are being supplied by AMD: AMD Radeon R9 M290X graphics processor with 2GB of GDDR5 memory, but configurable to AMD Radeon R9 M295X with 4GB of GDDR5 memory.
On the back of the new Mac with the Retina 5K display, there’s a microphone port, an SDXC card slot, four USB 3 ports, a pair of Thunderbolt 2 ports, and a Gigabit ethernet port.
